My vacations started with some boredom settling in but they picked up excitement when my cousin's wedding came up. And what's more? We decided to travel by road! I have traveled via road previously but this was something special as I had two consecutive trips. One, a 4 hour drive to Nashik with my parents and the second - the most awaited one for me - a 12 hour long half day half night experience via road without my parents to restrict me.
Mind it, I didn't like to leave my parents and little sister there when all I could see was my lil sis crying, my mum with a small smile and dad as cool as he always is. When I was about to leave for Indore, I could see my lil sis lurking behind my mum so that no one sees her crying but I did and when my aunt said my emotions out loud into words, I also started crying. Yeah! I'm quite emotional when it comes to family.
The emotional state of me went on fading away as curiosity started taking place and I began to observe and admire beautiful landscapes through open windows of the Tavera (the vehicle we were travelling in) which passed on like a reel of the camera which was unleashed and was left to roll on full speed. I was seated in mid-section in the middle with just right amount of wind to make that swooshing sound and the right warmth of the sun in the afternoon sky.
As the journey which started at 3 pm afternoon after the hectic function of 'ring ceremony' that we had attended in the morning went on, I got a little bored and kept on changing my seating position. For an Arian like me who is spontaneous and impatient, sitting for a longtime at the same place tends to get excruciating. I put on my earphones and matched the vehicles pace and the outside beauty to the mild songs I was listening to.
A really good tip to you when you go on such long trips would be that stop complaining about little things which trouble you and start accepting and admiring them. That's the only way you can 'Enjoy' because that's what you came here for, isn't it?
As the twilight settled in, we stopped at a very local tea shop which was tattered in some places and resembled a crooked shack type of structure. My dad would have never stopped there. Not because of his ego or status but when it comes to family, he believes in hygiene to be the topmost priority. And that's why drinking tea at that small shack had its own special taste and a tiny li'l place in my memory. We stopped at my aunt's house for dinner but mainly because we needed to pick her up for her to accompany us in our journey ahead to my Grandmothers house. That was specifically half past 8 at night. We still hadn't crossed maharashtra's and madhya pradesh's mutual boundary though.
After she joined us, the main fun came in as she always teased me and the 'shot-tempered' cute girl that I am, I always fired her up with equally sarcastic remarks. Well, people who know me well know my sarcasm as well too.
The night journey was what I was looking for. The roads now took a different turn as they became a lil narrower and bounded by trees on both the sides until we reached the highway lightened up by street lights and radium to show us our way. I'm not quite observant but when the writer in me takes place, it tends to notice awkward yet knowledgeable things. As we move from west to east, which is the direction my life takes to and fro, the hills change into plateaus and the sun seems more welcoming to me. I don't know about the moon as I was glancing to it for the first time at midnight. Midnight because the previous hours were dedicated to sleeping. The main thing was that this time I was seated beside the window and when I looked up at the clear, midnight blue sky, new constellations welcomed me and the moon seemed to be keeping pace with us as the driver kept on racing at a speed of 80 km/hr. Some of the turns were so un-awaited that I thought this was the last day of my life or the last night to be specific. I know that's an over-statement but when you have encountered missing an accelerating truck just by a millimeter and that too when you are seated on window-side, anyone is bound to feel that.
Anyways, fear and excitement kept aside now relief and despair came to me as we passed a massive billboard saying 'Welcome to Madhya Pradesh' and all the greetings that accompanied it. Relief because I was soon going to get up and leave this excruciating position I was seated in and despair because the long yet short journey will soon come to an end. And yes that did when I reached my home through unknown paths and turns at 3 am at night.
Ahhh! Not to forget the stop at a Dhaba at midnight for a big glass of sweetened coffee which powered up my veins. Not a glass though. The cup was the size of two ridged small cups kept on top of the other which you usually find at local tea shops. The caffeine also gave me an idea to stop the wind from flapping my eyelids like they didn't belonged to me but to the wind itself which had the daring to do that painful tear-welcoming thing. I put on my relaxing sunglasses which other than giving me quite an un-disturbing view to the outside also attracted glances from unknown people at the toll plaza. I could tell that the sleepy and skinny guy sitting at the cash counter inside a small glass cabin was surely thinking that wearing glasses at night may be, only may be just now got to be a new trend. That was amusing though as was my whole journey.
Overall, it was quite a sovereign experience for me. This point is where I derived one more passion out of me. Travelling.
